Tue. August 12th  – 7 pm “Beekeeping Through the Camera Lens” with  Simon Croson of the Aritisan Honey Company at George Mason University, Fairfax Campus, 4400 University Drive, Fairfax, 22030 in Research Hall Room 163.

Simon was attracted to beekeeping through his love of honey but more importantly, to begin with, through his love of photography, the world of the  honey bee provided an excellent new subject and has subsequently allowed Simon the opportunity to travel and share his combined passion. He teaches beekeeping subjects at various levels and is involved in events at all levels in the UK and further afield.  His passion for the show arena has seen him gather over 100 awards at honey shows in the UK and 2 Gold Medals in  photography at the international Apimondia beekeeping conference. As a commercial beekeeper his honey products have also been recognized in the culinary world at national level. Simon gives much of his personal time to allow others to benefit through beekeeping by organizing training events locally for his association.  He also organizes the lecture program at the National Honey Show in the UK and leads tours for Bees Abroad a charity that supports aims to relieve poverty through beekeeping projects, most recently to “the Honey Hunters of Nepal.” After he leaves Virginia he will be speaking at the South Florida Bee College  Simon enjoys travel, photography and new beekeeping initiatives.
