Our next PWRBA meeting is Tuesday September 8th. We will start with “Ask a Beekeeper” at 6:30PM, followed by a short business meeting at 7:00PM. At 7:30 pm Maggie Mills will speak on Products from the Hive. Maggie is the owner of the Hope Honey Farm (http://www.hopehoney.com/), the only Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) honey bee farm inside the DC/MD/VA Beltway. She will speak on value-added products such as comb & creamed honey, soaps, lip balm, and body butters. She will also discuss business aspects, give tips on how to prepare for entering Fairs, and tell us how she uses propolis beeswax and honey to encourage experimentation for transforming your own “scrapings” and honey into gifts.
She will have some of her products for sale for those interested. Remember that the church is in a dead zone and credit card transactions will not work. If you anticipate buying anything, bring cash (including small bills) or your checkbook.
Maggie Mills serves on the Executive Board of the Maryland State Beekeepers Association and is Vice President of the Bowie Upper Marlboro Beekeepers Association (BUMBA). She is also a member of the Montgomery County Beekeepers, Eastern Apiculture Society (EAS) and DC Beekeepers Alliance. She lives in Hyattsville, MD and believes in promoting beekeeper and community education with a focus on sustainability.
