Get ready for the Honey Show at the Prince William Fair.  This is your chance to help promote beekeeping and products of the hive.  We hope to have the biggest honey show in years.  Even if you are not interested in the competition- we need to make sure HONEY (and/or beeswax) is there in force and showcased as one of our agricultural products and the importance of bees to agriculture.  To do that we need YOU to ENTER YOUR HONEY!  BEESWAX blocks welcomed too!

Doing this is good for all of us beekeepers  as there is unprecedented interest in beekeeping, the public is hungry for education about bees, and honey is getting a premium price. I believe that honey and other products of the hive belong beautifully presented as agricultural products at the local county fairs. In the (paraphrased) words of one of my favorite beekeepers and friend, Mr. Mike Palmer, honey shows are about showing off what our bees have given us, presenting the beauty of their gifts to others, and carrying their beauty forth in the products we provide for sale.

To inspire you to participate the club will not only offer FREE jars for strained honey (contact Kristin G for your jar), but we are offering CASH MONEY PRIZES. The prizes will be $50 for 1st place, $25 for 2nd place, $10 for 3rd place for each light, medium and dark color category of liquid honey at Prince William County Fair.

The fair is August 9-17 and honey is required to be submitted on Aug. 8th from 2-9 pm.
Guidelines can be found here: http://www.pwcfair.com/competitions.htm  Click on DEPARTMENT 8 for specifics of the honey classes.

NEW this year- you can carry your honey jar directly to the "show bench" so noone else gets their greasy fingers on it.

You can pre register by July 26th here: http://www.pwcfair.com/docs/HomeArtsInteractiveRegistrationForm.pdf
