Shared by Margaret Fisher of Clifton, VA. Here is something everyone could do immediately to improve conditions for honeybees: create a Bee Safe Neighborhood! Obviously, if it is safe for bees, it will be safe for butterflies and the rest of the living world as well. This is a very fun and surprisingly easy project that can make a substantial difference right where we live. It answers the question of how you reach the vast majority of people who are not members of environmental groups: one neighborhood at a time! Time from when I heard of this idea to when we held a block party to celebrate: six weeks. I went around to my neighbors by myself over the course of a few weekends. With help ,it would go even faster.
